Oat Cream

Buying dairy cream means you have to put aside your plastic-free habits. But I've discovered a quick and easy oat cream you can make at home with just a handful of oats and oil.

Recipe

Ingredients 250ml of cream

  • 2 cups of oats

  • 2 tbsp of sunflower or vegetable oil

  • 2 cups of water

  • muslin cloth

  • strainer

  • pinch of salt

  • blender (I use a nutribullet)

Method

  1. In a bowl, cover 2 cups of oats and soak for 30 mins.

  2. Strain the oats through the sieve and rinse under cold water.

  3. Place the oats in a blender with 2 cups of water, the oil and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth.

  4. Over a bowl, place your muslin cloth over a strainer and pour the oat cream through it. Gather your muslin and squeeze the remaining liquid through. I keep the ground oats and make them into dog treats or put them in shakes and smoothies.

  5. Pour your cream in a glass jar and keep in the fridge. It should last 3-5 days when refrigerated.
