Buying dairy cream means you have to put aside your plastic-free habits. But I've discovered a quick and easy oat cream you can make at home with just a handful of oats and oil.
Recipe
Ingredients 250ml of cream
2 cups of oats
2 tbsp of sunflower or vegetable oil
2 cups of water
muslin cloth
strainer
pinch of salt
blender (I use a nutribullet)
Method
In a bowl, cover 2 cups of oats and soak for 30 mins.
Strain the oats through the sieve and rinse under cold water.
Place the oats in a blender with 2 cups of water, the oil and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth.
Over a bowl, place your muslin cloth over a strainer and pour the oat cream through it. Gather your muslin and squeeze the remaining liquid through. I keep the ground oats and make them into dog treats or put them in shakes and smoothies.
Pour your cream in a glass jar and keep in the fridge. It should last 3-5 days when refrigerated.
